All year surfing on Fuerteventura
Because of our beautiful weather conditions we have tourism all year long, with some months more quite and other more busy. Normally the month of January just after Christmas time and February is quite but there are also very good waves so, we can also surf free more 🙂 Great weather, sometimes there are some low pressure passing near the island so we can have a bit of bad weather. Also just before the summer holidays like in May and beginning of June is quite on Fuerteventura, in this part of the year the weather is great, much warmer and water temperature starts to rise, we still have good condition for the surf lessons.
In March and April we have carnival, which is the most important fiesta in the Canary islands, and of course, – Easter, so there are a lot of people whose coming from the other islands, and the weather is great.
The busiest months are July, August and September, hottest months of the year. The average temperature for Fuerteventura is 25 degrees; in summer season you can see thousands of tourists flying to the island; water is quite warm so it’s possible to surf without wetsuit or with a 2mm wetsuit. There are many waves on the east side by the sand dunes, it’s the place which is surrounded with white sand and clear water, so it’s really very cool to go for surfing over there.
How to prepare for surfing
I consider it’s very important to have a good breakfast when we go surfing. Breakfast is the fuel for our body, we need a high energy meal. If you don’t have a good breakfast, you’ll go in the water without power , and than you’ll get tired very quickly.
Also it’s very important when we are on the beach just before to get in the water to surf, we must warm up our body, it allows your body to function better and reduce the chance of injuries.
In October we start to get north swells, so is a good time of the year to come to Fuerteventura if you are an advanced surfer. But it’s also great for beginner surfer, cause as a surf school, we have the possibility to bring you to some good surf beaches on the north shore. The island is still warm and the water temperature is around 23 degrees, glassy condition (no wind) are common in this month.
November and December are very good month for surfing, we have still glassy conditions and off shore winds (wind comes from the shore out to see) many days with good powerful swells. I love particularly this months, just before Christmas, cause it’s not so busy and you have a chance to get lot of waves. Still very good for beginners surfers due to the fact that we can choose between many surf brakes, it is too big somewhere, there will be a fun wave somewhere else.
Here, in Fuerteventura surfing is really popular, some spots can get really crowded when waves are pumping, the vibe in the water is pretty cool, so always follow usual rules of surfing and respect the locals, don’t snake or drop in, say ” hola” and give a smile 😉
